Why is the 3rd party camera dropping video feed from the Foscam NVR or other brand's NAS?
Foscam NVR systems are ONVIF compliant and can work with many 3rd party cameras which hold this compliance certification. If after adding the 3rd part camera the video feed intermittently drops out follow the troubleshooting steps below to correct for this. Note: Please be sure the Foscam NVR/NAS is using the latest firmware update before proceeding. Step 1: Verify that the 3rd part camera is connected to the same network as the Foscam NVR. If the camera is connected via an Ethernet cable attempt the connection with a different cable. This will help determine if the cable is defective or not. Step 2: Confirm the 3rd party camera is ONVIF 2.1 compliant. If the unit is compliant with an earlier version of ONVIF check to see if a firmware update has been released for the product which updates the compliance version. Apply the update if needed.
Note: Be sure to follow all the instructions for a firmware update otherwise this may cause the product to malfunction in the event the incorrect firmware is applied or all of the instructions were not followed. Step 3: Verify the camera video feed is functioning properly over the network.
Most 3rd part cameras offer an app or a web page login option to view the video feed from the camera. Login to the camera and view the video feed to see if it is dropping out. If the video feed is observed to be functioning properly then this probably is not the cause of the problems. Step 4: Verify the 3rd party camera and Foscam NVR are running the most up to date firmware.
Visit the manufacturer page for the 3rd party camera and check for the latest firmware update. Apply the update if needed to rule out the possibility of compatibility problems.
Verify the Foscam NVR is using the most up to date firmware. Regular firmware updates are released for performance and security enhancements for our products. Note: If after performing all the above steps and the problem persists there may be some type of unknown compatibility problem between the devices. If this is the case we recommend using Foscam cameras with Foscam NVR systems. Check user related forums and the manufacturer webpages/forums for other solutions which may be outside of the scope of this document.
